Media Activism

Green Power Rally will take place in many cities all across the United States on Saturday, July 31st, 2010. This is the very first nationwide demonstration for renewable energy, which means you can demonstrate in your home city!

Green Power Rally is a wonderful opportunity for you to play a prominent role in raising public awareness and support for zero-emissions energy sources. The general public needs to get excited about solar, wind, geothermal and hydro power in order for a Green Power infrastructure to develop in America. A Green Power infrastructure will reduce greenhouse gasses that cause climate change; stop wars over limited supplies of foreign oil, and also create millions of new industrial and scientific jobs – boosting our economy!
As a demonstrator, you will enlighten citizens in your community about the benefits of clean, renewable energy and also show them how to be Green Power activists in 12 different ways! Green Power education and activism needs to grow in America and your local demonstration will fuel this growth.
Invite your friends to demonstrate with you on Saturday, July 31st! The more people that demonstrate with you, the higher probability there will be media coverage, which in turn will inspire and motivate many other citizens about Green Power outside your community. Who knows, you might get national media coverage if enough friends demonstrate with you!

The new Flemish government plans to invest €515m to create its own energy company, Vl.Energie. The news came on 5 July, with the announcement that socialist, Christian-democrat and nationalist negotiators had reached agreement on the formation of a regional government in the wake of local elections held on 7 June. The daily De Standaard reports that "the regional government plans to combine all of its holdings in green energy companies," which include stakes in biomass, wind power, and incineration services.  An additional investment of approximately €200m will enable it to "obtain a share in two green energy providers:  Aspiravi (wind power) and Enfibity (solar energy)." According to one of the negotiators, this "ambitious project […] is intended to provide a counter weight to the oligopoly currently maintained by Electrabel and SPE." In a demonstration of its commitment to the environment, the regional government is also planning to apply strict energy conservation standards in all of the buildings under its control (public offices, schools, retirement homes etc).

The New Green Economy

Community. Sustainability. Diversity. Empowerment. Right Relationship. Collaboration. These are some of the emerging values of The New Green Economy. The website is exploring the new values and the new language of sustainability. How will businesses and non profit organizations work together in the near future to address humanity's pressing challenges? How can we successfully weave business into the Earth's ecology? What is the "integrity of the whole" and how can you engage it?

Founded in 2008, www.The New Green Economy.com is taking a look at what lies beyond the consumer world. Since the Second World War, the Materials Economy has been the driving force behind U.S. economics - practices which have only spread around the globe. The name refers to the raw materials from which its products are made. The marketing and sale of these products is what keeps the Materials Economy in motion, all the while exhausting natural resources and generating incalculable amounts of waste.

In order to move beyond consumer culture, new values, perspectives, and language is needed. Natural and Social value have a new place in The New Green Economy. Modern societies must come back into alignment with natural cycles by choice because the legacy for future generations is being crafted now. The economic practices of externalizing costs and letting the environment and future generations pay the price is no longer acceptable. Clean energy, sustainable product design, healthy living and communities, and innovative social programs are the way of our common future. Join the discussion today.
