Green power

Green power is electricity generated using renewable resources that generally have a lighter environmental impact than other energy resources. Renewable energy resources (the sun, wind, water, heat within the earth, and organic plant and waste material that naturally rejuvenate) don't disappear forever when they are used to generate electricity because they are easily replenished by nature. The terms most frequently used for these renewable energy sources are solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and biomass energy.

A growing number of electric power providers offer their customers an opportunity to buy green power. It usually costs a little bit more than electricity from fossil and nuclear sources of fuel.

Efficient Green Power

Green power is a term used to describe sources of energy that are renewable and considered to be environmentally friendly and harness natural processes, such as geothermal energy, wind energy, and solar energy. Hydro-electric power created by dams is another source that can be eco-friendly if used on a small scale and does not impact stream migration, outfall, and surrounding habitats. Promising new technologies are also on the horizon such as tidal and wave energy. These sources of energy provide an alternate 'cleaner' source of energy, helping to negate the effects of global warming and certain forms of pollution. All of these power generation techniques can be described as renewable since they are not depleting any resource to create the energy.

GreenPowerOregon

Renewable energy is the energy we get from constantly replenishing natural resources. Think sun, wind, tides, biomass and geothermal heat. We can also add biofuels and hydrogen derived from renewable resources to our list. See the Glossary for more.
